With the New Year just starting, people are making resolutions and setting goals. For most, it’s about working out and eating healthier, but for parents with children on the spectrum, priorities and goals can be quite different.
Today, we want to help you make the most out of 2024, so we’ve compiled a list of the New Year’s resolutions that every parent on the spectrum really needs!
Top 5 New Year’s Resolutions For ASD Moms:
Stop Blaming Yourself: As a mother on the spectrum, it’s easy to compare yourself to others and feel like you’re never doing enough. Remember, comparison is the thief of joy. Acknowledge that you’re always pursuing what’s best for your child and family. Be proud of the incredible memories you’ve built together. You are enough!
Build Community: Up to 80% of ASD mommies admit they’ve felt lonely at some point in their journeys. Building a strong community around you should be a main goal this year. Having friendships with other moms on the spectrum can be a significant source of support. Look for support groups in your area or on Facebook to accomplish your goal of building a community in 2024.
Celebrate Each Milestone: Celebrate every accomplishment, big or small. Dance for that new word, sing for that new food your child tried. Each achievement deserves acknowledgment. Celebrate yourself and give credit for all the amazing things you do.
Do More of What You Love: As a mother, it’s easy to forget your desires and put everyone else first. Practicing more of your favorite activities is crucial for your mental health. Take time for yourself—get a massage, visit a friend, or do something that makes you happy. Even an hour for yourself each week can make a significant difference in your mood and overall wellbeing.
Embrace Your Child: Embrace your current season and decide to enjoy time spent with your child. Treasure each moment and let yourself be in the present. Your child will grow and accomplish goals, so seize the moment you’re in right now!
We believe that 2024 is a year where you’ll accomplish everything you set your mind to! May you find yourself stronger, happier, and confident that you can achieve everything you set your mind to because you deserve it!
